This year, Javier Gurruchaga i la Orquesta Mondragón, Obeses, Mambo Jambo Arkestra, The Blowfield Kings, Heaven on Earth Gospel Choir i la Companyia Elèctrica Dharma ill be the stars who will electrify the audience with their performances.
Program:
January 12 – Teatre El Casal – Javier Gurruchaga and La Orquesta Mondragón
We will kick off the Concert Cycle with a unique show: “Extraordinary Stories”. Javier Gurruchaga and La Orquesta Mondragón have been sharing their original musical and theatrical proposal on stages worldwide for over four decades. Teatre El Casal in Amer hosts their new show, Extraordinary Stories, where they revisit their extensive and successful musical career and invite the audience to travel with them through their forty years of history. The Basque musician and his band perform hits from their repertoire such as Garras Humanas, Bon voyage, Ponte la peluca, or Corazón de neón, along with covers of John Lennon, Luis Eduardo Aute, and Lou Reed, among others. With a cabaret and music-hall aesthetic, and to the rhythm of blues and jazz, the show is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s stories, which serve as the guiding thread of the performance. As Javier Gurruchaga himself would say: “Ladies and gentlemen… Step right up. The show is about to begin.”
January 26 – Teatre El Casal – Obeses
Obeses is a polarizing band: you either love them or hate them. The devotion of their fans is intense and unconditional, while the dislike often comes from people who haven’t listened to them or seen them live, basing their opinions only on the provocative discourse of singer and composer Arnau Tordera I. With several major awards, such as the Premi Altaveu, Disc Català de l’Any 2016 by Ràdio 4, and the Enderrock Award for Best Artist of the Year, Obeses is synonymous with quality at festivals and events, offering virtuosity, good taste, and musical passion.
After six years without new releases, Obeses is back with L’ai el cor, a synthwave single that combines disco-pop harmonies with psychedelic touches. This new work reflects on the impact of artificial intelligence on human relationships, warning about the potential loss of human uniqueness. Both the single’s cover and the music video, created by Víctor Rubio from the production company Acid Factory, transport the band members into a video game universe, blending past influences with a futuristic vision.
February 16 – Teatre El Casal – Mambo Jambo Arkestra
The renowned Barcelona quartet Los Mambo Jambo, composed of Dani Nel·lo (saxophone), Ivan Kovacevic (double bass), Anton Jarl (drums), and Dani Baraldés (guitar), returns to the stage reinforced by twelve musicians – two horn sections and a second guitar – amplifying their jambophonic sound.
After their first Arkestra format recording in 2018 and the subsequent tour, the band realized the vast possibilities of this expanded lineup. Los Mambo Jambo are now embarking on a second adventure with El Gran Ciclón, a perfect repertoire for the Arkestra that combines tracks from different eras of the group.
The creation process has been an exhilarating journey involving the entire team of musicians, technicians, and management. The band worked tirelessly on the arrangements, which were developed by the skilled hand of Ivan Kovacevic. After rehearsing with the full Arkestra, they entered the studio in January under the production of Dani Nel·lo.
The album cover, created by Alicante illustrator Adrián Bago, serves as a metaphor for the essence of Los Mambo Jambo: in the eye of a great storm, amidst lightning and thunder, a member of the Arkestra raises a cocktail and smiles, fully aware of the unusual situation around them.
In a time of uncertainty and shifting paradigms in the music industry, amidst socio-economic instability, the Barcelona quartet remains faithful to their convictions, releasing an album of 11 original tracks, proving that touring with a 16-piece band is not only possible but thrilling.
February 23 – Teatre El Casal – The Blowfield Kings
If you’re passionate about the blues, you can’t miss The Blowfield Kings, a band from Belgium that brings authentic 1950s and 60s electric blues to the stage.
The Blowfield Kings are a blues and roots band from Belgium, heavily influenced by the great masters of the past. Their mission? To revive the electric blues of the 50s and 60s!
The band members, who have a wealth of experience, have played in renowned groups like Vaya Con Dios. Now, they bring a mix of original songs and classics by Jimmy Reed, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, and Sonny Boy Williamson, all performed with the authentic sound of that era.
Let yourself be swept away by the performance, forget your worries, and dance to their groovy rhythm!
March 16 – Monestir d’Amer – Heaven on Earth Gospel Choir
Heaven on Earth Gospel Choir is a gospel choir founded by Àngels Isern and Moisès Sala, which began its journey in November 2021 with the aim of creating a non-profit formation committed to social solidarity. To achieve this, the choir offers scholarships to individuals with limited resources who want to sing and experience gospel music.
Starting in 2024, Heaven on Earth Gospel Choir will join the global project Gospel Sense Fronteres, a social responsibility initiative led by Moisès Sala that benefits children. This project involves their choirs The Gospel Viu Choir and Gospel Project, active in 17 countries across four continents, including Madagascar, India, Gambia, Senegal, Peru, Eastern Europe, Ukraine, and Malawi.
Heaven on Earth Gospel Choir works to make gospel music a tool for transformation.
March 23 – Teatre El Casal – Companyia Elèctrica Dharma
Closing the concert series is a living legend of Catalan music: Companyia Elèctrica Dharma.
Companyia Elèctrica Dharma made its debut on February 20, 1972. It was the first of the 2,200 concerts they have performed in their 50-year uninterrupted career, making them the longest-running active band in the country.
Dharma is one of the most influential bands in the Catalan music scene, pioneers in the fusion of traditional music with jazz and progressive rock. They have broken boundaries with international tours across Europe (Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Sweden), the United States, and performances at Rock in Rio in Brazil, Memphis, Mali, and South Africa. Their discography includes 25 albums, and some of their songs have become anthems, forming part of the country’s soundtrack, such as La Presó del Rei de França, Inana, La Gent vol viure en Pau, Resistir és vèncer, and Flamarada.
