Performance by L.U.C with the REBELBABEL Film Orchestra at the Casa de Cultura in Girona, as part of the 36th Girona Film Festival, featuring the soundtrack of the film The Peasants.
The concert, held on November 7 at the Casa de Cultura in Girona, marked the opening of the 36th Girona Film Festival, by the presence of the Consul General of Poland, Ms. Ilona Kaldonska, accompanied by Consul Lukasz Knurowski.
Against the backdrop of changing seasons and seasonal fieldwork, the story of the Boryna family and the beautiful, mysterious Jagna unfolds. Women, especially the tragic Jagna, take center stage in the plot. The unique microcosm of a rural community serves as a pretext for a universal and highly relevant story—a tale of tragic love and life within a confined community, where strict standards and brutal rules define everyone’s place in the group, and stepping beyond these constraints results in humiliation and rejection.
The monumental work by Władysław Reymont is rich with picturesque descriptions of nature. The film draws inspiration from the paintings of the Young Poland artistic period, which perfectly capture the spirit of the novel. Interpretations of works by artists such as Józef Chełmoński, Ferdynand Ruszczyc, and Leon Wyczółkowski will come to life on the big screen.
The soundtrack has been crafted by award-winning producer Łukasz L.U.C. Rostkowski. As part of the Rebel Babel Film Orchestra, the composer has formed a Slavic collective of folk musicians who, like painters, use traditional means (folk instruments and songs) to create a magical and analog landscape that enhances the beauty of the painted images.
