FabLAB Rural, Amer

FabLAB Rural is a newly created and innovative project promoted by IDEA Cultural Association, based in Amer (Catalonia), in collaboration with the Castell d’Estela Secondary School in Amer.

The results of the project have recently been presented, showcasing the involvement of renowned artists with extensive professional careers, including Marcel·lí Antúnez, Lluís Fortuny and Monika Grygier, as well as professionals from the fields of communication, photography, video production and editing, such as Maria Batet, Albert Blanch, Miquel Tomàs and Joan Gol, together with the school’s students.

During the presentation, held at Espai Jove La Teranyina in Amer, the works developed throughout the 2025–2026 academic year were unveiled. A total of 76 first-year secondary students participated in the activities through a cultural mediation process led by IDEA and the participating artists. The project also involved students from the fourth year of secondary education and the first year of upper secondary education through design thinking workshops, reaching more than one hundred students from Castell d’Estela Secondary School.

The activities enabled young participants to develop motivation, creativity and new skills, while also contributing to the programme’s objectives, particularly in strengthening communication competencies in the Catalan language, both in oral and written expression and comprehension.

The project also provided resources, tools and methodologies that teachers can apply in the classroom, together with a detailed monitoring and evaluation system aimed at generating new educational and creative approaches.

Following the presentation of the project trailer, a documentary will be premiered in September. The film will present an overview of the artistic practices developed throughout the project, as well as reflections and testimonies from students and all the stakeholders involved.

FabLAB Rural is one of the 77 initiatives selected through this funding programme, which supports newly created and innovative cultural and artistic projects in educational centres across Catalonia. Its main objectives are to strengthen cultural rights, foster educational innovation and promote territorial equity.

The programme is part of the Culture and Education Initiative promoted by the Government of Catalonia through the Departments of Culture and Education and Vocational Training. It seeks to establish a lasting alliance between culture and education, encouraging the use of arts and culture as tools for learning, critical thinking and equal opportunities. This initiative is one of the Government’s strategic priorities to ensure access to culture and artistic practice from childhood and throughout life.
