On Sunday, July 6th, the Teatre El Casal d’Amer came alive with the energy, blues and passion of Jimmy Barnatán, a multifaceted artist and long-time collaborator of our organization. With his show My Life in a Piano, Barnatán took the audience on an intense and heartfelt journey through more than 30 years of artistic career, performing sixteen songs that carried us from Santander to New York.
This was not his first time in Amer—he has performed here four times, and even recorded the music video “Back Way Home” with his band The Cocooners during one of his stays. He is also a regular contributor and member of IDEA Cultural Association, taking part in various projects and artistic residencies.
Jimmy Barnatán made his debut at the age of 11 in the musical Les Misérables, and since then, has developed a rich and diverse career in film, television, music, and literature. He is well remembered for his role as Chucky in the popular Spanish TV series Los Serrano, and has worked with directors such as Álex de la Iglesia (The Day of the Beast, My Big Night) and Santiago Segura (Torrente).
His love for blues, jazz and soul was born in Harlem, New York, where he began singing in jam sessions at just 16. In Spain, he led projects such as San Telmo Blues Band and Jimmy Barnatán & The Cocooners, with whom he recorded albums like Room 13: A Blues Tale, Motorclub, and Bourbon Church.
In addition to being an actor and singer, Barnatán is also a writer and filmmaker, author of novels like New York Blues and La Chistera de Memphis, and co-director of the documentary Racing Blues, about his hometown football club.
At IDEA, we are proud to count on his talent, generosity and creative spirit. Thank you, Jimmy, for moving us once again!
