The Sona Amer closes January with a memorable performance by Obeses
Tv La Selva Editorial
Last weekend, the Sona Amer concert cycle wrapped up January with a standout performance by the renowned Catalan band ‘Obeses.’ The group, awarded several prestigious prizes such as the Premi Altaveu and the Catalan Record of the Year 2016 by Ràdio 4, offered the audience a selection of their most iconic songs while also presenting new tracks from their latest work.
After six years without new releases, Obeses returns with “L’ai el cor.”, a synthwave single that blends disco pop harmonies with psychedelic touches. This new proposal reflects on the impact of artificial intelligence on human relationships, warning about the possible loss of human uniqueness. The single’s cover and music video, created by Víctor Rubio from Acid Factory, transport the band members to a video game universe, mixing past influences with a futuristic vision.
With this concert, the festival continues in February with two additional performances, reaffirming its position as one of the most prominent concert cycles both in the region and at a European level.
February 16 – Teatre El Casal – Los Mambo Jambo Arkestra
The renowned Barcelona quartet Los Mambo Jambo, formed by Dani Nel·lo (saxophone), Ivan Kovacevic (double bass), Anton Jarl (drums), and Dani Baraldés (guitar), returns to the stage reinforced by twelve musicians – two wind sections and a second guitar – making their jambophonic sound bigger and more powerful. After the first recording of the Arkestra format in 2018 and the subsequent tour, the band recognized the enormous potential of this expanded setup. Los Mambo Jambo embarks on a second installment, understanding that such an adventure couldn’t be limited to a single record and tour. El Gran Ciclón is a perfect repertoire for the Arkestra, combining tracks from different eras of the group. The creative process was thrilling and involved the entire team of musicians, technicians, and management intensely. Los Mambo Jambo spent weeks working on the arrangements, developed by the expert hand of Ivan Kovacevic. After rehearsals with the entire Arkestra, they entered the studio in January under the production of Dani Nel·lo. The cover art by Alicante illustrator Adrián Bago is a good metaphor for Los Mambo Jambo’s essence: in the midst of a great storm, surrounded by lightning and thunder, at the eye of the Gran Ciclón, an Arkestra member, oblivious to the chaos around him, toasts the audience with his cocktail and smiles knowingly. In a moment of market uncertainty and changes in the music industry paradigm, during an unstable socio-economic period, the Barcelona quartet remains true to its convictions, betting on an album with 11 original tracks, knowing that touring with a 16-member band is not only possible but absolutely exciting.
